The global
paper industry is under consumer and environmental pressure to use more post-consumer wastepaper in
its products. Concern about environmental impact is changing some of the chemical processes and the
chemistry used in paper-making. A lot of the emphases are on recycling and de-inking technologies. Before
it can be made into paper, recycled fiber must be separated from any impurities and foreign materials.
For consumer products where appearance is more important, such as newsprint and printing/writing grades,
the ink must be removed as well so that it does not interfere with printing or give the sheet a dull,
dark finish. The AccoPure® product line can be used with either a chemical de-inking process or
in conjunction with dissolved air flotation systems.
